At Derbyshire County Cricket Club, our mission is to lead by example in creating a more sustainable future – within our venue and beyond. We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact through real, measurable actions: from zero waste to landfill, energy-efficient systems and sustainable sourcing, to responsible partnerships and community support.

We believe sustainability is a journey and we are setting achievable goals, tracking our progress and continuously adapting our practices.

Together, with our team, guests and suppliers, we’re making meaningful changes to protect our planet and inspire others to do the same.

Energy & Water Conservation

  • All lighting fitted with energy-saving LED bulbs
  • Motion-sensitive lighting and PIR-triggered urinals throughout the venue
  • Solar panels installed and planning transition to renewable electricity
  • Rainwater collected for irrigation
  • Dual flush toilets and water-saving valves fitted in all restrooms
  • Annual energy audits and carbon footprint tracking per meeting space
  • Energy-efficient kitchen ventilation and laundry systems
  • Energy and water use monitored with a monthly tracking system

Waste Reduction & Recycling

  • Certified Zero Waste to Landfill
  • 100% of paper, card, glass, cans and plastic recycled
  • Food waste collected for composting or recycling
  • Garden waste composted and shredded onsite
  • All single-use plastics eliminated
  • Bulk refill dispensers in restrooms and meeting spaces
  • Recycled or refurbished furniture and materials
  • Excess equipment donated to local good causes
  • Waste management reviewed within the last two years

Sustainable Food & Beverage

  • All catering uses locally sourced, seasonal ingredients
  • Vegan, vegetarian and non-dairy milk options always available
  • Menus can be measured for carbon footprint
  • Filtered drinking water and refill stations throughout the venue
  • No endangered or protected seafood, following MCS guidance
  • Fair-trade or ethically sourced tea, coffee, sugar and alcohol-free drinks
  • Measures in place to reduce food miles and deliveries
  • Plant-based menu and Chef’s Choice options available

Green Travel & Wellness

  • Located in central Derby with excellent public transport links
  • Bike racks available onsite
  • Guests can be provided with local running routes and wellness suggestions
  • Carbon-free outdoor team building activities on-site
  • EV charging points within a 5 minute walk of the venue and byt Autumn 2025 they will be installed at the venue
